This is a program designed to be used with children in Kindergarten; however, it could be used with other grades levels as well.  

• Students record each book that they read beyond the school day and have a parent initial the titles
• Students may read independently or have another person read to them
• It does not matter the size of a book (a picture book and a chapter book count as 1 book)
• Students earn a button and a small token for every 25 books read
• Each level has a different color. The tracking sheet and the button to be earned shared the same color
• The librarian explains the program to the students during a visit to the library
• Tracking sheets can be turned in at any time when the entire class is visiting the library
• The librarian will provide the student with the prize immediately in front of his/her peers
• The librarian will file the completed tracking sheet until the end of the year when the student will receive all of his/her sheets at once
• The librarian will then provide the student with the next level of the tracking sheet
• The classroom teacher has no responsibility other than to promote the program
