National Library or Children’s Book Week Ideas
1. Guess the number of books in the Library.
2. Bulletin Board ideas: Match Teacher with their favorite children’s book. If you want to help students, have each teacher post a hint on their door or next to the bulletin board each day.
Another variation- Take pictures of teachers/ principal/ librarian/ counselors etc. holding a favorite book with the book open and covering their face - kids have to guess the person.
3. Create new book covers for worn or missing ones.
4. Daily dress themes:
“Books are our BEARY good friends”- bring a stuff bear
“Brighten you day with a good book”- wear sunglasses
“Hats off to Reading”- wear a hat
“Reading is our business”- wear suit or just a business tie
“Jog into Reading”- wear jogging suit
“Read your socks off”- wear crazy socks
“Slip into a Super book”- wear slippers
“Books can take you anywhere”- wear a destination T-shirt
"Don't Sweat It, Read!"--wear sports attire
5. Read Daily quotes about reading, books or libraries at morning announcements.
6. Make slips of paper - "You are a winner for reading during Children's book week", hide the bookmarks inside books all over the library. When a child finds one and checks out that book, they get a special bookmark, pencil, sticker, etc. (The "you are a winner" slips do not show). We would ring a little bell when we had a winner.
7. Host a “Read Around The School” day.
8. You could put these items out in your library or in the teachers lounge. Please share your ideas.
